DIENCEPHALON  DISEGNO carries a more complex position in design. With both the ability to create a conceptual design and the embodied intellectual to execute the concept.  In our own small way, we try to retrace the ways taught by Leonardo Da Vinci —where Art & Science join together.

Disegno is an Italian word that translates to “design” or “drawing,” but in the context of the Renaissance, it refers to both the conceptual design and the formal execution of the drawing. Embodying the Artist’s ability to invent and create it.

Some theorists wrote of the disegno interno, the artist’s ideal visualization of an object or scene. From the Renaissance this ability to invent and execute has placed the artist on a footing with the ultimate Creator, and the means of raising the status from craft to Art. In the Renaissance of Italy, the dispute arose of partisans like Michelangelo.

In Monterey, California where the waves meet sculpted land,

in a studio breathing oceanfront, our practice offers a living

palette of fog, incense cedar, and stone —elements that speak

calmly but endure.

Without trivializing the word “art”, but acknowledging the

work of artisanal precision among those who work with their

hands in the fine arts, Wingfield Masonry is a true artistic

expression of humanity.

“We exist to emulate, not imitate.”
